The latest of the highly popular local history talks in Llandinam will hear from Nia Griffiths about her recent research into war memorials in the Arwystli area.
In a project organised by Llani Ltd, Nia has been looking at inscriptions in Llangurig, Llanidloes, Trefeglwys and Llandinam, and trying to find out more about the lives of those who died. There are 116 individuals on the memorials, and information about more than a hundred of them has now been gathered. For 70 of them she has been able to obtain photographs, putting faces to the bald details of name, rank and regiment.
It has taken two years of research, and as well as photographs and addresses there have been scores of letters that fill in some of the background, providing a fascinating glimpse into the lives of our forefathers. “We are finding more material all the time”, says Nia, “and the people of Llandinam have been particularly helpful in contributing to this research.” Much more has come to light since Nia’s last visit to Llandinam and there will also be a chance for the audience to share any information they may have.
There will also be an update from Nick Venti on Llani Ltd’s latest project, an app you will be able to download to your mobile phone, and find out more as you explore about the contribution the residents of the town made to the Great War. A future exhibition is also planned.
This fascinating talk will take place upstairs in the Girls Parlour at Llandinam Village Hall. Entrance £2.
